This was the message conveyed at the Cultural Evening dedicated to interculturalism, tolerance, and dialogue<em>,<\/em> held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the House of Nobel Laureate Ivo Andri\u0107 in Herceg Novi.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"452\" data-end=\"739\">Speakers at the event included Ivan Otovi\u0107, Deputy Mayor of Herceg Novi Municipality; Tamara Lepeti\u0107, MA in Ethnology and Anthropology; Du\u0161an Medin, archaeologist and MA in Cultural and Media Management; and Jelena Ristovi\u0107, Program Coordinator at the Civic Alliance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"452\" data-end=\"739\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45328\" src=\"https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Otovic-1024x715.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"559\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Otovic-1024x715.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Otovic-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Otovic-768x536.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Otovic-1536x1073.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Otovic-2048x1430.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In his opening address, Otovi\u0107 expressed his satisfaction that Herceg Novi had the opportunity to host young people from Ro\u017eaje, emphasizing that the city has always been a place where different cultures meet. He particularly highlighted the importance of connecting younger generations who, as he stated, have the potential to build a society based on unity, understanding, and mutual respect. \u201cWe should not live next to one another, but with one another,\u201d Otovi\u0107 said, calling on young people to take part in similar initiatives that contribute to personal growth and the strengthening of the community.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45331\" src=\"https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Tamara-1024x942.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"736\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Tamara-1024x942.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Tamara-300x276.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Tamara-768x706.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Tamara-1536x1413.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Tamara-2048x1884.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the Public Institution \u201cHerceg Fest\u201d, Tamara Lepeti\u0107 reflected on the symbolism of the venue \u2014 the House of Ivo Andri\u0107 \u2014 and the significance of the bridge as a recurring motif in work of Andri\u0107. From an anthropological perspective, she spoke about the concepts of tolerance, interculturalism, multiculturalism, and dialogue, emphasizing that these are not merely modern, politically desirable terms, but notions deeply rooted in historical thought. She posed the question of whether people are born tolerant or become so through social circumstances, underlining that tolerance is a skill we learn. Lepeti\u0107 also addressed cultural identity as a key element of recognition and mutual understanding, warning that fear often emerges as a barrier when encountering different identities.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45304\" src=\"https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Dusan-1024x952.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"744\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Dusan-1024x952.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Dusan-300x279.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Dusan-768x714.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Dusan-1536x1427.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/gamn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Dusan-2048x1903.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Through an interactive approach, Du\u0161an Medin engaged with participants in a discussion on the concepts of identity, ethnic and national belonging, as well as the importance of archaeology and anthropology in understanding both material and intangible culture. He particularly emphasized the importance of young people stepping out of their comfort zones and engaging with topics that may not be \u201cpopular,\u201d but are crucial for their position in society.
