Cultural visit of high school students from Herceg Novi to Rožaje in the spirit of tolerance, dialogue and interculturality

The cultural visit of high school students from “Ivan Goran Kovačić” school from Herceg Novi to the municipality of Rožaje was carried out with the aim of strengthening intercultural dialogue and exchange of experiences among young people from different backgrounds. The visit took place from May 8 to 10, 2025.

The students visited the Gymnasium “30. Septembar” in Rožaje, where they met with their peers who will return the visit to Herceg Novi in ​​September. An educational lecture was also organized on the topics of interculturalism, tolerance, and dialogue, which additionally strengthened the role of education in the promotion of social values.

As part of a one-day visit, high school students from Herceg Novi visited numerous cultural and historical sites, including the Ganić Tower Native Museum, the Kučan Mosque, Ružica Church, the private Pepić House Museum, as well as the ethnic village of Jela, where they informally socialized with their hosts. The visit was completed with a tour of the natural beauties of the Rožaj region, which further enriched their experience.

The cultural evening, organized as the central event of this visit, was dedicated to interculturality, tolerance, and dialogue. The attendees were addressed by Agim Ljaić, director of the Gymnasium “30. Septembar”, and Almir Avdić, president of the Rožaje Municipality Assembly.

Avdić pointed out that the local self-government strongly supports initiatives that contribute to the development of mutual respect and tolerance, and that government representatives have the responsibility to live the values ​​of interculturalism and transfer them into practice. Ljaić spoke about the role of school as a space where young people grow into responsible citizens, open to dialogue and understanding, especially in the context of challenges imposed by social networks and modern media.

He spoke about the role of education and school programs in the promotion of interculturality, recalling the importance of teaching content through which students can approach the topics of diversity and appreciation. He also referred to the current challenges imposed by social networks and modern media, stressing that school must be a corrective factor and a space where young people cgrow into responsible citizens, open to dialogue and understanding.

This activity was organized as part of the project “Together for strengthening the culture of tolerance and equality”, which is implemented by the Civic Alliance with the financial support of the Fund for the Protection and Exercising of Minority Rights.
