The Civic Alliance, the Youth Initiative for Human Rights, and the Bosniak Forum submitted an initiative to the Assembly of the Capital City to consider and approve the installation of a commemorative plaque next to the tree planted in honor of Srđan Aleksić, on the boulevard bearing his name.
The initiative states that Srđan Aleksić represents a universal symbol of humanity, solidarity, and civic courage, whose name and legacy transcend national, religious, and political divisions and serve as a lasting reminder of the values that should form the foundation of a modern, democratic, and humane society.
It was proposed that a plaque bearing the inscription “THE TREE OF HUMANITY OF SRĐAN ALEKSIĆ,” written on both sides, be installed next to the existing tree, which was planted in 2014 in agreement with the Capital City.
We believe that such a memorial inscription would carry strong symbolic and educational significance, particularly for younger generations, as it would further promote messages of peace, tolerance, and respect for human dignity in the public space of the Capital City.
The implementation of this initiative would represent an important civilizational gesture by the Capital City and a significant contribution to preserving the culture of remembrance of those who, through their actions, demonstrated that humanity and solidarity stand above violence and hatred.
