In anticipation of the International Human Rights Day, representatives of the Civic Alliance held a meeting with members of the Women’s Club of the Rožaje Municipal Assembly on Tuesday. The meeting was dedicated to strengthening the capacity of the club and promoting cooperation between local councilor clubs in order to achieve a wider social impact and improve opportunities and opportunities for women in local politics. The goal of the meeting was to create concrete plans for strengthening women’s councilor clubs in the local community and encouraging their cooperation through the formation of a network. The councilors were also presented with concrete activities that will be implemented through the upcoming project of the Civic Alliance “Networking Platform for Gender Equality” supported by the US Embassy in Montenegro.
In addition to sharing their successes and experiences in their previous work, the councilors expressed their desire for stronger cooperation and active participation in projects dedicated to human rights, and we expect closer cooperation in that segment as well. It is very important that they recognize the important issues that need to be resolved in terms of gender equality in their city, and in which ways they can participate in raising the capacities of young women in Rožaje. Thus, it was agreed that councilors from Rozaj within their local community will hold meetings with women on topics that are current for them in order to raise awareness, but also their capacities. At the meeting, it will be presented to them that they can be provided with retraining, but also different types of education through educational workshops on public performances, policy making, and the like.
We especially emphasize the determination of councilors to join their club to the Network of Women’s Clubs in the Municipal Assemblies of Montenegro. This gives us the opportunity to expand the Network of Women’s Clubs, with the hope that this initiative will continue in other municipalities. We are pleased with the agreement that councilors from Rožaj will join their colleagues from Bijelo Polje, Ulcinj and Nikšić, who have already signed the Cooperation Platform, becoming part of the successfully established Network of Women’s Clubs.
The Civic Alliance remains committed to supporting such initiatives, and believes in the further growth and development of the community dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights.
