Women Councillors’ Club Established in the Municipal Assembly of Danilovgrad

An agreement on the establishment of the Women Councillors’ Club was signed today in the Municipal Assembly of Danilovgrad, at the initiative of Civic Alliance. This is the fifteenth club formed by Civic Alliance in Montenegrin municipalities, aimed at networking women councillors and strengthening their influence in local decision-making. The goal of these clubs is to move beyond narrow party interests and promote policies and initiatives in the interest of all citizens.

In addition to representatives of Civic Alliance, the ceremony was attended by the President of the Municipality of Danilovgrad, Aleksandar Grgurović; Vice Presidents Bojan Pavićević and Marija Radonjić; the President of the Municipal Assembly, Predrag Pajović; and women councillors of the local parliament.

Danijela Darmanović, representative of Civic Alliance, emphasized that despite their abilities and capacities, women in politics are still often not sufficiently visible. Patriarchal attitudes, the “double burden” of work and family, and constraints within political parties often make it harder for women to advance and to gain the space they deserve. She stressed that the Women Councillors’ Club represents an important platform through which councillors, regardless of political affiliation, can cooperate and initiate actions in the interest of the citizens of Danilovgrad and the development of the local community.

The President of the Municipal Assembly, Predrag Pajović, highlighted that women in politics bring a different energy and approach. “An approach based on dialogue, inclusion, and problem-solving for the benefit of the entire community. That is why it is important for their voice to be clearly and strongly represented in decision-making processes,” Pajović stated.

Vice President of the Municipality, Marija Radonjić, assessed that the establishment of the Women Councillors’ Club has particular social value. “This is not just a technical step, but a clear message that women in Montenegro no longer accept being marginalized, but want, can, and must be an equal part of decision-making,” Radonjić emphasized. She added that today’s event demonstrated that political differences can be overcome when there is a higher goal – a safer, fairer, and more modern Danilovgrad, where women stand side by side regardless of party affiliation or beliefs.
